 Japanese English Education is so backwards.

It has been many years since I arrived in Japan since that time nothing has changed

and the process of improving English in Japan has not taken place, just asking the

way is sometimes difficult. Japanese Schools pressure their kids with grammer to

get high scores for a useless cause, this kind of English is never used in the Real World.

I was shocked when I met many university students who studied English and graduated.

( They could not speak a word of English)

English is not just Grammer and not just conversation.  English as a whole must be 

balanced out with conversation, reading, writing, listening and most of all culture.

(like we in Japan tokyo, Osaka, aomori, people say things colloquially different)

Learning languages are to learn foreign cultures and to have a whole “different

personalities” Its like having another personality in ones mind and see things in a

wider perspective (bigger picture) Being in Japan, I feel I’m thinking like a Japanese

sometimes. Ha!ha!

Why do Gaijins tell you your English is strange…

Why? Why? Why?

Because you are thinking in Japanese when you are speaking or write sentences.

many languages have the word order of SVO(Subject Verb Object) like English, German, Chinese, and so on.

But Japanese language is very different..

The differences in Japan are:

・We put Verb at the end of each sentence.

・We sometimes don’t use Verb.

・We sometimes omit Subject and Object.

・We always use onomatopoeia and so many more points.

//Example//

ウサギは耳が長いです。 > (No direct translation) ウサギの耳は長いです。 > Rabbits’ ears are long.(direct translation)

but many English speaker doesn’t say that. They will say ‘Rabbits have long ears’.

Rabbits have long ears. > ウサギは長い耳を持っている(direct translation)

There is no need to directly translate it. If you can image it,  later, you can translate it in to Japanese.

Fluent translation is that:

Rabbits have long ears. >>> ウサギは耳が長いです or  >>>ウサギの耳は長いです

It might be difficult at first… but, practice makes perfect. 

So, try to stop thinking in Japanese, when you speak English..
